Deconstructing U.S. History - Intro

6 05 2008

zinnI’m going to be starting a series of posts titled “Deconstructing U.S. History” which will follow my reading of Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States. I’ve already gone through the first couple of chapters and it’s rocking my face off.

He tells the history of America from the margins.

He tells the story from the perspective of those on the bottom of power…not on top.

He doesn’t exclude the voices of the oppressed and run over, but makes them the locus of the storytelling.

I think that it’s going to be a real eye opener for us all. If you haven’t read it before then check back as we go through this important book.

First we’ll start in 1492 with Christopher Columbus. And without spoiling it, let me just tell you that it’s gonna be a doozy of a first chapter.

We’ll start on Monday and take one chapter or so each monday after that…
